Megan spoke for an hour, telling stories then answering questions from the crowd. Then she signed our books and took pictures. She started by talking about Rosemary Sutcliff; her life story and writing inspirations. She talked about how as a child, Rosemary Sutcliff was sick in the hospital where boy and girls, as well as the books for boys and girls were kept seperate.
Since Rosemary didn't like the books chosen for the girls, she was inspired to write her own adventure stories. She answered questions about things like how the POV keeps changing in each of the books. She said she doesn't think she could ever write from Irene or Helen's perspective because they are "perfect" her words and would either seem fake or not relatable.
Im pretty sure Gen is younger than 20 in the 3rd book due to them talking about how he is a just a boy who barely has facial hair yet. He also has yet to grow taller than Attolia and men stop growing at 20, unless hes just short. It also mentions how he was already the queens thief at age So im guessing hes about in the 3rd book and about 12 in the 1st.

And from there, I think that 20 is still young. Young enough definitely to be called a boy. Jan 22, PM. I'm with Danielle, Gen's about 14 at the start of the series and not more than 20 by the end of it Irene has that moment of doubt after she cuts off his arm about torturing children, remember?
Mar 09, PM. Looks like combining information from the books and short stories would lead to the conclusion that Attolia is around 7 years older than Gen But i'm gonna be in denial about this! I just think her being that much older than him doesn't make them equal in their relationship and makes her love for him kind of questionable I remember she guessed his age wrong when she thought he was 6 when he first saw her and also in book 3 her old attendant calls him a boy and Attolia a babe in her eyes.
So it implies they're round about the same age. So i'm gonna pretend Attolia is about 3 years older than Gen and didn't actually know Eddis' age and thought she's older than her and much older than Gen.
